Elementary Class

Our dog training classes are designed to be accessible to anyone – whether you’ve trained other dogs in your life or this is your first. Step by step we guide you through our class series. If you attend each weekly class and  make an effort to do the weekly homework, you’ll have spectacular results.

In Class 1 we install our foundational obedience behaviors on “easy” mode. You’ll learn how to recognise and understand your dog’s stage in development, as well as how to handle problem behaviors. You’ll learn how to get your dog to come when called and stay with you performing all the newly learned skills.

Next Level Obedience Training

The training wheels are coming off! We take all of the behaviors you learned in Elementary and start making them more reliable.

Similar to what colleges and universities do for people, Dog Obedience training does for dogs! Our experienced Trainers at Jolly Dog utilise real life distractions and situations to prepare your dog for a happy, well behaved, and obedient life in the real world, your world.

Different trainers and handlers find different techniques work for them, so within the limits of what we are teaching, you might find different methods are given to you from trainer to trainer. Find what works for you and use it.

Higher Learning For Your Dog

From the Elementary Class you work your way up to the advanced “C” class – What seems impossible now, might not be in a year or two. We will guide & teach you & your dog through all the levels & stages to Advanced Show Training, which is known as “C”. We are here to assist you with shows if you wish to enter them.

Always end each exercise on a positive note, if you dog does what you wanted it to do, reward it & do not do it again at that point in time, because next time it more then likely will fail, and the failure is what the dog will remember.

*We include an introduction to agility work in Elementary. If you enjoy the energised & exciting exercises that form part of Agility training, we urge you to take part in the class. It is all included in your training fee.

Remeber, We’re Here For A Good Time!

We focus on play, fun, and building a deep connection between you and your pup. Your dog is family, after all.

Positive Reinforcement

Focuses on rewarding your dog for good behavior, rather than punishing bad behavior.

Find The Right Reward

Some dogs are food-motivated & others are fussier – often, soft, chewy treats are preferred to hard, crunchy ones.

Consistency Is Key

Being consistent in your training is incredibly important. Using the same word, and even the same kind of intonation, when asking them to do something.

Make It Fun

Training should be fun, both for you and your dog! Always keep it positive, and try mixing things up to keep it interesting.

Praise The Small Things

Remember to always praise your dog for any improvement, no matter how small. Celebrating the little wins is just as important, and will help keep both you and your dog motivated.

Work Training Into Daily Life

By making training part of your usual pet routine, it’s a lot easier to fit in many small sessions.

Use Your Hands

Many dogs respond better to hand signals than verbal commands, so try combining the two, or even begin with only hand signals and add the verbal command later.

Be Aware Of Your Body Language

Your dog listens to your voice, but is also very responsive to your eyes and body language.
